Help to build wells and sanitary latrines at 3 Schools, with 3,000 students, in Northern Afghanistan (Dawlatabad district: Khairabad, Qaraghojila and Shakhmoghlan) by the end of 2007. Also supply school supplies for teachers and children, supply desks and other school tools and encourage proper hygiene— especially handwashing—as a means of breaking disease transmission routes by providing adequate water supply for such purposes at the schools identified. Agriculture and Health Development Organization (AHDO) will collaborate with other NGOs working in Balkh on 12 month Learning for Life projects that are also aware of these needs: Coordination of Afghan Relief (CoAR) and International Rescue Committee (IRC). The Breakfast Club of Shoreline Rotary is looking for additional partners to help rebuild schools that were destroyed in the 8.0 magnitude earthquake that struck the coastal region of Southern Peru on August 15th. At this point, the Shoreline Club has partnered with three other Rotary Clubs on this project: the Rotary Club of Pisco, Peru; the Los Altos (California) Rotary; and the San Jose North (California) Rotary. GBT Environmental Education - The Great Baikal Trail (GBT) is a volunteer-driven, non-profit promoting, sustainable development of the Lake Baikal region by, among other things, constructing the first national hiking trail in Russia and conducting environmental education programs and exchanges. The project has become the primary focus of the Rotary Club of Baikal-Eco Centennial. The Rotary Club of West Seattle is organizing a group to work on the trail in the summer of 2009 and also on a project to help the kids in local villages appreciate the value of the Lake. Sustainable Water in Gulu, Uganda

Rehabilitate existing nonfunctioning borehole wells in the vicinity of Gulu, a remote area in Northern Uganda. Create a Rotary International approved matching funds project to help provide the availability of clean drinking water to these villages, which will improve children’s health and subsequently school attendance. Women and children (who largely perform all water collecting/hauling) will have shorter hauls and provide time for other essential activities, including providing families with food and attending school.
